Working Therapeutically with Complex PTSD Workshop with Garry Rollins
About this event
Following my successful first workshop on this subject I have been asked by many people to return and continue with my ideas with a focus on how to work with clients. It is not necessary to have attended the first workshop to attend this one. I am a qualified and experienced Psychotherapist and I also have personal experienced of Complex PTSD as a result of a toxic abusive childhood and this subject is very close to me heart.
In this workshop I will start by summarising some of the key points I made in the first workshop such as: What is CPTSD and how it affects people? We will briefly look at issues such as dissociation, anxiety, flashbacks, core beliefs; and issues in treatment planning, including the issue of keeping yourself and clients safe.
We will then move on to consider how to work with clients. We will be looking at theoretical models and how they apply then to working with clients with Complex PTSD. Exploring ideas such as Nathanson’s Compass of Shame; Feelings Work; Dissociation and Mindfulness; Polyvagal Theory, Window of Tolerance; Long Term Conditions from Trauma; Body Work; Treatment Planning; Key Therapeutic Tasks; and useful ideas from Transactional Analysis.
I welcome participants from all modalities and all levels of training and experience
This workshop will be recorded and you can use the ticket function to pre-purchase the recording before the event. This will be useful for colleagues who are not able to attend the event live and also for those who attend the event live and want to watch again.
This workshop will be hosted on the Zoom meeting platform where we will use our camera and microphones to interact with each other as a group.
To support practitioners in this time of extraordinary circumstances we are offering access to this group for a self-select fee.
The self-select fee is a radical inclusion policy to open learning for all colleagues. The guide price for this event is £20.00, however, we appreciate that income varies greatly in different locations and circumstances. Please contribute what you can to help us maintain inclusive professional training.
All the colleagues at ONLINEVENTS and the presenters we collaborate with are committed to working in a manner consistent with the BACP Ethical Framework, which can be accessed on the link below. Garry Rollins, BA, Dip, Dip.
Hello there. My name is Garry. My own childhood was very difficult and I suffered years of abuse which impacted me hugely in terms of Complex Trauma until my mid thirties and I carried a lot of shame. I spent many years working in social care and with Social Services, supporting children from difficult or broken homes. In my early forties I started training at The Berne Institute for five years in Transactional Analysis Psychotherapy, which included four years of personal psychotherapy. The training and the therapy were huge turning points for me. I set up my own practice, Gateway Counselling Leicester, and have continued seeing clients throughout, including retraining and moving my practice online in the last two years. Among others, I continue to work with clients with PTSD and Complex PTSD, and it is important to me personally that therapy is a safe place for people to get the support they need.
I also teach and practice Compassionate Mindfulness, supervise therapists, volunteer in a food bank, work with disabled young people with health care needs and play Dungeons and Dragons and other RPG’s. I am a prolific bookworm and will buy more bookcases rather than get rid of books. I believe so strongly in compassion in all things. I look forward to seeing you online.
