Our in person workshop aims to bring together fishers and conservation experts to explore practical, collaborative approaches to reduce the accidental bycatch of protected Harbour Porpoise in English waters.
Hosted by the Marine Management Organisation (MMO), this session will take place at The Fishing College on The Cobb. It will focus on sharing knowledge, gathering fisher insights, and discussing proportionate management options that support both marine conservation and sustainable fishing practices.
Participants will have the opportunity to:
- Learn about harbour porpoise conservation and current issue of bycatch.
- Review proposed management options, including gear modifications and spatial measures.
- Share local knowledge and experiences to inform future policy.
- Help shape practical, workable solutions that reflect the realities of fishing at sea.
This is a chance for fishers to have their voices heard and play a key role in developing balanced, evidence-based strategies that protect marine life while supporting livelihoods.
If you have any questions , please send them to conservation@marinemanagement.org.uk.
