Working Towards an Anti-Racist Region

Working Towards an Anti-Racist Region

By North East Anti-Racism Coalition

Overview

Looking at progress made so far, the next steps we need to take and success stories from around the North East.

The North East Anti-Racism Coalition is a group of individuals and organisations who are committed to helping make the North East a place where diversity is celebrated, inclusion is the norm, and everyone feels safe and valued. We are working to make the North East a region that actively opposes racism and hatred based on religious identity. Please note that our language and approach are still evolving as we take a co-creation approach to our movement.

We are working towards 5 objectives. These are:

  • Build and energise a visible anti-racist movement
  • Encourage community cohesion work at a local level to build community resilience
  • Shift public attitudes through a sustained awareness campaign
  • Provide practical support to organisations and institutions
  • Establish a knowledge and evidence hub on racism and anti-racism

As part of this work, and thanks to your feedback at previous events, we have been working on developing a pledge which, we are delighted to announce, will be formally launched at this event. The pledge will provide an opportunity for organisations from all sectors and all sizes, and individuals across communities to make a stand against racism, join a confident new movement, share learning and materials, and support each other as peers.

Alongside the pledge, we will be providing the usual space to talk, as well as updates on the other areas of work that we have been focusing on, and how you can get involved.

Thank you for all your engagement as part of the movement to date. You’re welcome to join us from 9.30am for light refreshments, ready for a prompt 10am start. The event will close at 1pm, with time for networking until 1:30pm.

Why not invite other people to join our movement? They can sign up at https://northeastantiracism.org.uk/contact/
