We invite mental health professionals, commissioners and service providers working in the NHS, local authority and third-sector within Essex and the East of England to attend this workshop.

This workshop will bring together a wide range of mental health service providers in Essex and neighbouring counties including NHS, local authority and third sector providers, to consider how recent and ongoing mental health research at the University of Essex can inform service delivery with a particular emphasis on addressing mental health inequalities, improving inclusivity of services and considering intersectionality.

The day's activities will include

A series of research updates from leading University of Essex academics showcasing recent mental health research findings on:

- Protected characteristics, intersectionality and mental health access: findings from UK household panel data analysis

- The mental health crisis in young people

- Place based inequalities in mental health (e.g. the coastal effect)

- Inequalities faced by disabled people

- Ethnic disparities in mental health

- Gender and mental health

Small group discussions around how local services could apply research evidence to service developments
Panel discussion led by key local service leads, including:

- Ginny Idehen; CEO Mind Mid and North East Essex Mind

- Peter Devlin; Director Adult Social Care, North Essex & Mental Health, Essex County Council

- Catherine Kennelly; Research and Information Officer, Maldon Community Voluntary Service

- Masuma Ali, Expert by lived experience
