The workshop:

The day will introduce participants to some of the psychodynamic and systemic theories around eating disorders (in particular when working with people with anorexia nervosa and bulimia nervosa). It will also explore various treatment options, resources and specialist services.

Participants will gain a greater understanding of some of the behaviours and psychopathology when assessing and deciding whether to work with people with eating disorders, or if appropriate know when to refer on to specialist services. The day will cover NICE guidelines, the psychological and physical effects of starvation, warning signs, diagnosis, treatment and integrative ways of working.

Individual participation is expected.

The trainer:

Julia Denington is an integrative psychotherapist. She lectures and supervises at a psychotherapy training institute in London. Julia has over 25 years experience as a social worker and psychotherapist, working in the voluntary, statutory and private sectors. Much of her work has involved adolescents and adults experiencing early onset as well as severe and enduring eating difficulties and disorders. Julia has a private practice, offering adolescents and adults individual psychotherapy and also provides supervision to newly qualified and experienced counsellors and psychotherapists.
