About this event

  • 7 days 2 hours

A trainer led, CPD accredited, course aimed at improving the knowledge of Social care professionals who work with and support autistic children with the PDA profile of autism (whether formally diagnosed, self-identified or exploring the profile). Conventional autism approaches are often ineffective and counter-productive for PDA people and the course will explore alternative approaches that include creating a partnership based on trust: flexibility and collaboration.

The course is primarily written for social workers, but will benefit all social care professionals and those working within the home environment with families supporting PDA children up to the age of 18yrs. Each session is packed with information with opportunities for discussion and questions but please note that it’s not designed as a fully interactive workshop.

During the course we will discuss: 'What is PDA?', consider what demands are, and their effects, then explore how to help using a variety of different approaches. We'll also take a look at siblings, diagnosis and education.

Number of CPD certified hours: 5 hours

Delegates may wish to watch our Introductory Webinar (23 mins) prior to attending the first session, in order that participants start from the same foundation of knowledge that will be built upon during the course: PDA Society Introductory Webinar
