Event description

Description

Society has a very negative view of anger, traditionally portraying it as an emotion that is somehow unnatural, always unhelpful, and condemns people (especially women) who dare to be angry in front of others.

At the same time large numbers of people do have a genuine problem with anger - as demonstrated by the number of clients (usually male) who are attending counselling at the behest of their partners in an attempt to save a relationship. And there are millions of others who also have a problem with anger but who do not acknowledge it because their anger is hidden and expressed in ways that society does not recognise as anger.

This workshop will seek to do two things:-

  • Encourage attendees to gain a better understanding of anger (the good and the bad) and how it is expressed (the hot and the cold).

  • Help counsellors develop their expertise in working with angry clients. There will be special emphasis on working in a short-term, focused way such as clients who want or have been referred for, "anger management".
