Event description

Description

How might an ex-boarder client present? What might we miss?

What happens to children who board and how does it affect their adult lives?

Drawing on the work of Nick Duffell and Joy Shaverein, we will look at a theoretical framework for understanding the particular challenges ex-boarders can present and ways we can work with them effectively. The workshop will include discussion and experiential exercises.

Who is it for: Counsellors wanting to broaden their understanding of ‘privileged’ clients, hidden trauma, broken attachment, and the impact of clients’ survival strategies in the therapy room; counsellors with ex-boarder clients;

Course Tutor: Karen Macmillan

Karen has specialist training in working with ex-boarders (Nick Duffell’s ‘The Unmaking of Them’). She is a student counsellor, with 4 years TA training at The Link Centre. Her client work includes substance misuse and student counselling. She also works part-time as an accountant and mediator. She boarded from the age of 11.

A Link Centre CPD certificate will be presented at the end of the workshop

Cancellation Policy: 50% refund will be given on cancellations with more than 7 days’ notice.
