This course aims to promote an understanding of the impact and consequences of trauma and torture so that practitioners will be better equipped to help children and families.

Learning Outcomes

►To gain an understanding of what we mean by ‘trauma’

► To understand the impact of trauma and abuse

► To understand the impact of change, loss and bereavement

► To help children and families with resources and sources of support


Target Group

► All multi-disciplinary and multi-agency staff who may work with children and their families who have experienced trauma


Objectives

► Through discussion and case studies, delegates will gain an understanding of trauma and its impact on all aspects of engagement with children and families


Links

► Delegates must be able to demonstrate how legal frameworks guide their practice and interventions with children and families

► Delegates should be able to identify specific tools or frameworks from the strengthening practice programme, that they might use in this type of work

► Delegates must demonstrate an ability to draw on research to underpin their practice in this area
