Deaf and hard-of-hearing survivors often face serious disadvantages in the justice system due to a lack of accessible communication and advocate support. Many are denied access to qualified BSL interpreters, videophones, or specialist support during police interviews, legal proceedings. Speech differences can also lead to misunderstandings and unfair treatment.
This training highlights the urgent need for informed, accessible practice and explores how frontline professionals can better support Deaf survivors. It also addresses the gap in advocate services and challenges assumptions about what Deaf individuals may know about police or court systems.
