Event description
This half-day CPD training draws on the latest research & evidence base to help you work with patients with depression and low mood.

About this event

This half day CPD training explores the principles behind working with patients with depression or low mood. As a healthcare professional you often know what the client needs ‘to do’ to improve their physical condition. But often it is 'the getting them to do it' part, that is the most challenging. Low mood or depression hinders client engagement and recovery, really impeding with the work you want to do with the patient.

Suitable for all Health and Welfare Professionals, such as, Occupational Therapists, Nurses, Doctors, Physiotherapists, other AHPs, students, assistants, or anyone working in face-to-face contact with patients.

What you will learn:

  • Assessing depression and low mood
  • The many different types of depression
  • Understanding the latest science as to why we can become depressed
  • Why some people are more vulnerable to low mood and depression
  • Understanding more clearly why patients don’t engage
  • How to engage patients in behaviour change
  • When to refer elsewhere (and when not to)
  • Practical, evidence-based tools that you can quickly use in session, as part of your existing role
  • How to engage patients straight away
  • Previous case studies to show how these techniques can be used in real life patient scenarios
  • Complete with various resources for you to use immediately with patients

Drawing on the latest research and evidence-base from Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT), Neuroscience, Mindfulness, and Motivational Interviewing.

Delivered live via Zoom, this interactive CPD will help you work quickly with low mood and depression so that you can focus on doing what you do best. The added benefit of this training is that it will also increase your own resilience, as well as your patients'.

No previous knowledge required.

Delivered by Chris Finn. Chris is a Clinical Lecturer in Psychology and an accredited Senior Psychotherapist and Supervisor. Chris has worked in senior positions in the NHS and has worked with thousands of people with depression in his career. He now specialises in helping other healthcare professionals enhance their existing skillset.
