Event description
Try out all aspects of the greenwood craft, develop new skills and produce a number of small hand-made items to take home.

About this event

During this one or two day course you will get the chance to try out all aspects of the greenwood craft, develop new skills and produce a number of small hand-made items to take home.

The course will be led by highly experienced, talented and all round knowledgeable tutor, Alasdair Kilpatrick from Little Acorn Furniture. This course will be held in the beautiful setting of Winsford Cottage Hospital, designed by Arts & Crafts architect CFA Voysey and will take inspiration from the building and the Arts & crafts period – which itself takes inspiration from the work of medieval greenwood makers.

The emphasis for the day or two days will be about having fun and having a go, and the course is aimed at complete beginners. However, if you have some experience already and wish to benefit from Alasdair’s teaching then you would be more than welcome too. The techniques of working with green wood and the required methods will be explored and demonstrated. Then it is over to you. All participants will leave the day or two days with something to take home and treasure, or to pass on as a gift.

You may attend as an individual, couple or family. The shared experience of learning something new and applying these skills is one that you will treasure for ever. Working with greenwood will deepen your connection with the woodland itself, be prepared never to look at a tree in the same way again.

All materials will be provided, please just wear clothes you do not mind being messy in. Refreshments will be on hand, but please bring along some lunch, or you can book a meal at the local pub The Junction Inn.

Heritage Lottery Funding has subsidised the cost of running this workshop.

ACCESS & CORONAVIRUS SAFETY MEASURES

The onsite training will be limited to a small number of people in order to comply with social distancing and health and safety measures. Any shared equipment will be cleaned in between users. The sessions will take place both in and out of doors. Indoor spaces will be kept ventilated throughout.

The entire ground floor of the site is accessible to wheelchair users.

Participants are asked to wear sturdy boots and warm and waterproof clothing. Please also bring face mask and gloves. Participants will also need to bring their own lunches.

If you have any questions regarding health and safety and access needs, please email: khoward@landmarktrust.org.uk
