Training Course Overview

This course aims to increase participants’ knowledge about male victims of domestic violence and abuse and their experiences, including how male victims’ experiences may differ from women’s experiences, and information about the nature, scale and incidence of intimate partner violence against men. The course teaches participants the skills they need to identify male victims, and respond appropriately to their needs.

Each participant is given a hard copy of the Respect Toolkit for Work with Male Victims of Domestic Violence.

What will I learn?

Participants on this course will learn how to identify male victims of domestic violence and abuse and respond to their needs using the Respect Male Victims Toolkit. The course aims to:

  • Learn about the experiences of male victims
  • Understand how to assess men's needs
  • Learn how to respond to male victims’ needs
  • Learn how to assess who is doing what to whom
  • Practice assessing and managing risk in work with male victims

This course is aimed at:

  • Sector workers looking for an introduction to male victims
  • Professionals who come into contact with male victims occasionally, such as social workers, Cafcass officers, counsellors, healthcare workers etc.
