Description

What is Parkinson's? How does it affect people? This is a course for exercise instructors who want to understand more about how to work with people living with Parkinson's. The day will includes a full program of talks by experts and practical demonstrations by instructors experienced in Parkinson's, and there’ll be a chance to network with other instructors over lunch.

Agenda for the day:

Morning:

Starts at 10.30 am - registration and refreshments from 10am

Parkinson’s Specialist Nurse: What is Parkinson’s, the motor and non-motor symptoms, the effects of drug therapy on the person with Parkinson’s, the role of carers.

Ehab Georgy, PhD, neuro-physiotherapist: How Parkinson’s affects people’s ability to exercise, what exercise can do for people with Parkinson’s.

A chance to ask questions

Afternoon:

A person living with Parkinson’s will speak about how exercise has helped them manage their Parkinson’s.

Dr Romina Vuono, neurobiology researcher at Addenbrooke’s and Dance for Parkinson’s instructor, leads a practical session on Parkinson’s and dance.

Kim Bilner, Level 4 exercise instructor and leader of 4 Parkinson’s exercise classes, leads an intensive circuit class practical and a seated exercise class practical.
