About this event

Workshop: Working with Text I: Cleaning and Curating Messy Data with Regular Expressions

Learn how to use pattern-matching ‘regular expressions’ - essentially advanced find and replace techniques - and unlock vast amounts of textual data for your research. This workshop will show you how to clean and curate messy textual data in word processing applications, giving you the skills to structure, sort and analyse data in a familiar environment. This will offer you an incredibly efficient and powerful way to extract the information contained in large amounts of prose and transform it into handy tables or spreadsheets that can be much more easily analysed.

Due to high demand, these workshops are currently limited to staff and students from University of Exeter and Southwest DTP institutions. If you do not fall into those categories but are interested in attending, please get in touch with the DH team and we can discuss training possibilities.

Places are very limited for this event, so if you find you are unable to attend, please let us know at digitalhumanities@exeter.ac.uk.
