Working with the Body in EMDR Therapy

A One-day Workshop

Introduction:

Guided by the Adaptive Information Processing (AIP) system, EMDR therapy draws on the innate adaptive drive towards healing, thus facilitating the effective processing of traumatic and other disturbing life experiences to an adaptive resolution. EMDR therapy recognises the vital role of the body in the encoding and the resolution of trauma. The focus of this workshop is on attending more explicitly to somatic dimension in case conceptualisation, treatment planning and memory processing within EMDR therapy.

Learning Outcomes:

Participants will learn:

i.              To develop enhanced sensory awareness and track its ongoing expression during EMDR therapy.

ii.             To recognise, monitor and modify nervous system regulation and dysregulation in EMDR therapy.

iii.            To facilitate clients to access self-capacities and resources and to anchor them in the body

iv.           To facilitate clients to access their innate somatic rhythm of expansion and contraction thus creating a foundation for pendulated and titrated access to embedded trauma.

v.             How trauma is held/encoded in the body and how to resolve body memories in EMDR therapy

vi.           To use somatic interweaves in EMDR therapy
