Working with the Fascist State of Mind and the Complex that Rules Culture
Overview
The personality is composed of many not one as we come to oneself with and through others. A precarious identity creates no end of emotional confusion, lack of internal connection and the self out of kilter with the rest of the personality. This can be called a fascist state of mind, a phrase taken from an essay by Italian Jungian analyst Francisco Bisagni (2022) and American psychoanalyst Christopher Bollas (2018). It refers to the rigid and narrow complex dictatorially ruling the culture, family, and personality. From childhood we create these complexes, ongoing narratives shaped by words, body language, emotions, images, rituals, and transgenerational interactions. How we deal with them from a Jungian approach is the topic of this presentation and discussion.
