Event description

Description

DID YOU KNOW?

  • Around 3% of young people report feeling uncomfortable with the gender they have been assigned at birth. In a school of 1000 pupils, that’s 30 young people. 10 of these young people are likely to transition gender.
  • 90% of all young people describe transphobic abuse as "common".
  • 66% of trans young people seriously consider suicide, as compared to 23% of non-trans young people.

This one day course will:

  • Help you get to grips with terminology and facts, and then learn how to put them into practice.
  • Encourage you to ensure that your every day practice is trans-inclusive.
  • Enable you to confidently and consistently recognise and challenge transphobia
  • Look at the law and safeguarding aspects of supporting trans young people.
  • Give you the tools to support a trans young person including relevant and local signposting.

This event is free*, funded by the Heywood, Middleton and Rochdale Clinical Commissioning Group**.

*A fee of £50 will be levied to persons or organisations that book spaces but do not show up for the event.
** Event only open to youth practictioners in Heywood, Middleton and Rochdale.
