Event description
This training day delivered by Abianda will give delegates an increased knowledge and understanding of girls affected by gangs.

About this event

NWG are pleased to bring to the Network Abianda who are a London-based social enterprise that works with young women affected by gangs and county lines, and the professionals who support them.

The morning session is an interactive 3 hour module delivered by Abianda practitioners called "Working with Young Women and Girls Affected by Gangs and County Lines".

During the session;

• Attendees learn about Abianda – our model of practice, values and services.

• We provide an introduction to Solution Focused Practice, a cornerstone of our approach to working with young women.

• We explore and challenge the stereotypes and myths around young women, gangs and county lines, and facilitate a critical discussion of the term “gang”.

• We address the risks young women face, and the barriers to them accessing support.

• We share the ideal knowledge, skills and attitudes young women tell us they want professionals to have.

• Attendees will come away with enhanced understanding of how young women and girls are affected by gangs and county lines, what stops them getting help, and how to respond.

Attendees will come away with:

• Increased understanding of how young women and girls are affected by gangs and county lines

• Increased understanding of what stops young women getting help

• Increased knowledge of how to respond to young women and girls affected by gangs and county lines

On your return from lunch delegates will attend the Abianda session "Advocating for and with Young Women"

This session covers our approach to advocacy, and our work to ensure young women’s needs are met. We explore the ways we work alongside young women to equip them with the skills and confidence to advocate for themselves, and thereby take control and influence the decisions that affect their lives.

Professionals will hear how Abianda supports young women to prepare for professionals meetings, and what we do when a young woman is not ready to participate in the advocacy process.

• Professionals understand how to support service users to engage effectively with statutory meetings

• Professionals have increased confidence in supporting young people to advocate for themselves
