Description

This one-day course gives people an understanding of common conditions and more importantly the individual nature of mental health experiences. Participants learn how to spot warning signs, talk to colleagues appropriately, and guide individuals (including themselves) towards support when needed.

WHAT WILL YOU LEARN?

Course Details

Part 1: Understanding attitudes to mental health

· Stigma (including Time-to-Change and reasons for stigma)

· Prevalence and severity of mental health conditions

· Impact of societal attitudes

· Changing perceptions

Part 2 -Understanding common mental health conditions

· Signs and symptoms of depression, anxiety, bi-polar, panic disorders, psychosis, suicidal thoughts and behaviours, self harm, eating disorders

· Diagnosis - best left to experts

· The "S" word - talking about suicide

Part 3 -Stress in the workplace

· Understanding stress - in contrast to mental health conditions

· The psychology and physiology of stress

· Signs of stress in self and others

· Increasing resilience

Part 4 -Supporting others with their mental health

· Providing immediate assistance to people in mental distress

· Confidentiality - dealing with this from the outset

· Impact on the helper

· Dealing with situations outside your competence

Part 5 -Positive mental wellbeing

· Dual continuum approach to mental health and wellbeing

· Environmental, social and emotional/cognitive influences of mental wellbeing

· Five ways to wellbeing

· Resources to improve mental wellbeing

WHO SHOULD ATTEND?

It is ideal for all employees but particularly those who lead and manage teams, work within a people function, a current physical first aider, or are working in an end-user or customer facing role.

WHAT QUALIFICATION DO YOU GET?

Everyone who attends the course will receive a copy of the Mental Health First Responder workbook. All delegates who complete the training will receive an CPD certificate to confirm you are a trained and certified as Mental Health First Responder.

Are there ID or minimum age requirements to enter the event?

No

What are my transport/parking options for getting to and from the event?

Our office is a 7 minute walk away from Manchester Piccadilly Train Station. The nearest Metrolink tram stations are Market Street or Piccadilly Gardens and are on average a five minute walk from our office on Fountain Street. The nearest car park is the NCP on New York Street.
