Event description

Description

1 in 3 sicknotes in the UK is now for a mental health related absence, yet support in the workplace for mental health first aid is often absent. For every £1 invested by employers in improving mental health resources it provides a return of £4.20 which makes the business case overwhelming to develop internal support and aid.

MENTAL HEALTH FIRST AID (MHFA) IS AN INTERNATIONALLY RECOGNISED TRAINING COURSE, DESIGNED TO TEACH PEOPLE HOW TO SPOT THE SIGNS AND SYMPTOMS OF MENTAL ILL HEALTH AND PROVIDE QUALIFIED HELP ON A FIRST AID BASIS.

WHAT WILL YOU LEARN?

• To feel confident in helping someone experiencing a mental health problem by assisting on a first aid basis
• To be aware of and understand the signs of mental health issues, and be able to support by listening non-judgementally

• To help to guide someone towards the right support and networks

Session One: What is mental health and mental health first aid?
Session Two: Depression and suicidal crisis
Session Three: Anxiety, personality disorders, eating disorders and self-harm

Session Four: Psychosis, schizophrenia, bipolar and wellbeing recovery

WHAT ARE THE WIDER BUSINESS BENEFITS?

  • Encourage staff to access support when it’s needed, for a faster recovery

  • Empower people with a long term mental health issue or disability to thrive in work

  • Stop preventable health issues arising by building a supportive culture around mental health

WHO SHOULD ATTEND?

It is ideal for all employees but particularly those who manage teams, work within a people function, a current physical first aider, or are working in an end-user or customer facing role.

WHAT QUALIFICATION DO YOU GET?

Everyone who attends the course will receive a copy of the MHFA manual and workbook. All delegates who complete the two-day training will receive an MHFA England certificate to confirm you are a trained and qualified Mental Health First Aider.

Please note that the course is two full days and requires full attendance on both days. This course is subject to minimum and maximum numbers all of which will be communicated to you seven days prior to event date.

Trainer: Ruth Cooper-Dickson
