Workplace Relations for Line Managers and Supervisors - Birmingham NEC

This workshop is designed for Line Managers and Supervisors from junior to mid-level who have responsibility for managing others; from one person upwards. Backed by our unique suite of learning materials in the shape of specially produced films to accentuate learning points, and a series of refresher clips made available to each attendee post workshop, this is an excellent development event for any Line Manager or Supervisor.
This workshop focuses on the practical skills and behaviours that good, confident, consistent managers should display, in areas such as building trust, communicating with employees and dealing with conflict. There is an excellent blend of experiential learning, self-reflection, the use of some models, together with the use of multi-media, all of which make a very worthwhile, productive and effective day.
Why attend this workshop?
Line Managers are key in any employment relationship, regardless of the size of the organisation. Extensive research has shown that the most important relationship for employees is the one with their immediate boss; people leave their boss, not necessarily their employer. Yet, Line Managers remain a significantly under-invested in and an under-developed group.
This workshop is uniquely designed with an emphasis on skills and behaviours. You will have time for self-reflection on how you react to situations and challenges and offered alternatives, so you have access to a range of options. You will be taken through learning in a productive, safe environment, using case studies and film to highlight key learning points. You will also have the chance to consider any situations you find difficult, whether it be a relationship with a team member or delivering group communications and by working through those, find ways to be more effective, confident and happier in facing them. The skills and behaviours offered in this workshop will definitely be of benefit in your job.

Structure and Content
- Short pre-work to complete the Thomas Kilmann questionnaire on conflict styles
- How to build trust and know when it is, is not present
- Understanding why rapport is important, how to build it and how to deal with situations where rapport is difficult to build
- How to communicate with employees individually and in groups
- The importance of good communication and why it is a vital skill
- Introduction to the 4mat method of constructing and delivering communications
- Influencing through communication and feedback and displaying the right behaviours to do this effectively
- How to deal with conflict, recognising the attendees own way of dealing with conflict; reference back to the Kilmann model questionnaire and conflict styles
- Introduction of tools and techniques for dealing with conflict and turning situations around
About the presenters
This workshop will be led and facilitated by Sean Donovan. Sean draws on his vast experience of training and development gained from working across multiple sectors for more than 20 years. Sean has specialised in psychometric profiling, coaching, learning material design and delivery, organisational development, talent management and succession planning. He worked as a line manager in demanding environments for a number of years and brings this experience to each workshop he leads.
