Workshop 1: Enhancing health professionals’ learning through partnership with patients
Geoff Wykurz and Diana Kelly
How do you work effectively and collaboratively with patients to ensure that their contribution to health professionals’ education is fully utilised and valued?
This workshop will provide the chance to explore the potential opportunities and challenges for health professionals and patients, working in partnership, to develop effective teaching and training. In this workshop you will be able to explore your ideas through an interactive session designed to support you, whatever stage you are at, in creating learning activities that involve a collaborative approach with patients.
The workshop will consider different levels of patient involvement, core principles, practicalities, benefits of working with patients, and concerns for patients, learners and professionals. Following an initial introduction, participants will spend most of the session working in small groups with patients. The focus will be on the topics participants wish to explore in order to generate practical ways to take initiatives forward.
