GREEN HORIZONS WORKSHOPS: COLLABORATING FOR SUCCESS

The global challenges of a climate & biodiversity crisis require multi-disciplinary working. Stepping up to meet these challenges means developing new collaborative skills for joint working between built environment professionals.

Based on the highly successful Green Horizons workshops in 2019, Design West & the Landscape Institute are running a series of three workshops to develop the skills needed for effective collaboration, strategic decision-making & communication. Covering clients, stakeholders, consultants, contractors, specialists, and occupiers.

WORKSHOP 1: GREEN INFRASTRUCTURE & BIODIVERSITY NET GAIN

Join us for an immersive workshop with the experienced ecologist & Director for Biodiversity Tom Butterworth from WSP. Tom will look at how we work together to achieve biodiversity net gain on successful developments.

ABOUT THE SPEAKER:

Tom Butterworth – Head of the UK WSP Ecology team & Director for Biodiversity https://www.wsp.com/en-GB

Tom Butterworth is the Head of Ecology for WSP UK & a Director with extensive experience in natural capital & biodiversity assessments. Tom supports clients in public & private sectors in meeting their objectives & targets for development together with their objectives for natural capital & nature. Tom has delivered net positive measures & outcomes across many high-profile projects, particularly in the energy, road & rail sectors.

Tom has over 23 years’ experience working for wildlife. Over this time Tom has led practical management of SSSIs, developed local, regional & national biodiversity strategies & policies, led programs of research & managed the delivery of the Government’s biodiversity strategy. As Natural England’s Lead for Biodiversity & Green Infrastructure Tom gained experience working with developers, wildlife organizations, community groups & local authorities to enable development while supporting biodiversity.
