Workshop 2 – Energy Transitions

The transition to net-zero carbon emissions is the critical global challenge of our time. Our research spans the arc from diverse local energy resources (wind, tidal, solar, etc) to critical productive energy needs, in a wide range of applications. Teams in our Orkney campus support the European Marine Energy Centre, while staff in the Lyell Centre investigate new approaches to tapping geothermal resources. In Dubai, our Centre of Excellence in Smart Construction is pioneering with industry in low-carbon building, and in Edinburgh the Industrial Decarbonisation Research and Innovation Centre aims to establish the world’s first net-zero carbon industrial cluster by 2040 

The International Centre for Island Technology has a well-established partnership with Universidad Co-operativa de Colombia, sharing experience of industry- academia knowledge exchange, particularly concerning aquatic renewable energies.

We invite our friends to share ideas about current priorities and challenges that we can tackle together.  The themes of our four research workshops are closely related, and we invite you to participate in each of the events to find opportunities for cross-over.   

Applicants to join our research workshops are asked to complete a profile form, to show your own research interests and experience.  Before the workshop, you will receive the profiles of all participants, to let you make the most of this networking opportunity.

Taller 2- Transiciones energéticas

La transición a cero emisiones netas de carbono es el desafío global crítico de nuestro tiempo. Nuestra investigación abarca desde diversos recursos energéticos locales (eólica, mareomotriz, solar, etc.) hasta necesidades energéticas productivas críticas, en una amplia gama de aplicaciones. Los equipos de nuestro campus de Orkney apoyan al Centro Europeo de Energía Marina, mientras que el personal del Centro Lyell investiga nuevos enfoques para aprovechar los recursos geotérmicos. En Dubái, nuestro Centro de Excelencia en Construcción Inteligente es pionero en la industria de la construcción con bajas emisiones de carbono, y en Edimburgo, el Centro de Investigación e Innovación en Descarbonización Industrial (IDRIC) tiene como objetivo establecer el primer clúster industrial de carbono neto cero del mundo para 2040.

El Centro Internacional de Tecnología Insular tiene una asociación bien establecida con la Universidad Cooperativa de Colombia, compartiendo experiencias de intercambio de conocimientos entre la industria y la academia, particularmente en lo que respecta a las energías renovables acuáticas.

Los invitamos a compartir ideas sobre las prioridades y desafíos actuales en los cuales podemos trabajar juntos. Los temas de nuestros cuatro talleres de investigación están estrechamente relacionados y lo invitamos a participar en cada uno de los eventos para encontrar oportunidades que pueden estar interconectadas.
