Event description
This day-long workshop focuses on 4 areas of arts freelancing: finding and increasing work; managing finances; managing yourself; well-being

About this Event

They say find a job you love and you'll never work another day in your life. In fact, often it's quite the opposite. Making a career in the arts means working hard, making sacrifices and smart decisions, often walking the line between commerciality and integrity, and it requires a suite of skills including planning, negotiation and self-representation. It can also be extremely good fun.

This day-long workshop led by artist and programmer Greg Thorpe will include four sessions:

· Work: finding it, keeping it, increasing it.

· Money: invoicing, expenses, work fees, tax.

· Managing yourself: workload, work strategies, deadlines, delivering.

· Well-being: common anxieties, time off, self-care for freelancers.

Each session will allow time for questions and input from the group.

The workshop will suit beginner or early-career freelancers , but anyone who is working for themselves will benefit from the day.

If you are already a freelancer you can claim the cost of this ticket as a tax-deductible expense towards your professional development. If you’re not sure how, we can help you.

There are a small number of cost-free places available for those on a low income who want to attend. If you cannot afford the cost of the ticket, please contact katie@cultureplex.co.uk to discuss applying for a free place.
