Experiential food extraordinaires Bompas & Parr* bring their specially commissioned striped wobbly wonders to Pattern Power. Live demonstration while you make your very own Superstripe Jellies and moulds to take home.
• WORKSHOP SCHEDULE
Your workshop will begin with an introduction from Mr Sam Bompas before our handy jelly makers spilt you into 3 groups.
Each group will make a jelly recipe (devised by the Bompas & Parr team) before enmbarking on three 30 minute workshops where you will:
1) Make your very own mould on the mould making machine!
2) Enjoy a Superstripe jelly taste test and make Super Shooters.
3) Un-mould your jellies while finding out about the history of jelly.
Along with you moulds, everyone will take away two Superstripe jellies each!
* JELLY MONGERS
Bompas and Parr design spectacular experiences, often working on an architectural scale, combined with cutting edge technology. Projects explore how the taste of food is altered by synaesthesia, performance and setting.
From just Sam Bompas and Harry Parr in 2007, when Bompas & Parr was founded, the studio now consists of a team of cooks, specialised technicians, architects, graphic designers, and administrators. They work with Sam and Harry to experiment, develop, produce, and install projects, artworks, jellies and exhibitions, as well as archiving, communicating, and contextualising the work. Additional to the projects realised in-house, Bompas & Parr contract structural engineers and other specialists, and collaborate with curators, cultural practitioners, and scientists.
Clients and exhibitions include: Barbican Art Gallery, Cargill, Courvoisier, Disney, Garage Center for Contemporary Culture, Hendrick's Gin, Institute of Contemporary Art, Kraft Foods, London Design Festival, London Festival of Architecture, Nokia, Performa Arts, Rogers Stirk Harbour + Partners, Selfridges, San Francisco Museum of Modern Art, School of Life, Serpentine Gallery, UCL, Victoria & Albert Museum, Vital Arts, Wellcome Collection.
When & Where
Pattern Power —Superstripe is the first in an ongoing series of annual exhibitions and events, exploring the powerful presence of pattern and it’s ability to positively connect us all.
For the month of April 2013 cult pattern pioneers Patternity take over the Londonewcastle Project Space on Redchurch Street in East London.
Visitors will be immersed in an intriguing and tactile world of stripes as Patternity transport their iconic curation and ethos of ‘celebrating pattern everywhere’ boldly into the real world.
