Workshop, Brighton archive and oral history: Queer Beyond London
Wed 22 March 2017, 14:30 – 16:30 GMT
Queer Beyond London is a study of LGBTQ histories, experiences and communities in Brighton, Leeds, Manchester and Plymouth from the 1960s to the present. We are looking for people in Brighton to join us for an archive and oral history workshop. The event will include exploring Brighton’s LGBTQ past using records and documents that shed light on themes such as family, migration, community, and the uses of history. After discussing the archival materials, we will come together for a recorded group oral history session. Participants may share and reflect on their own memories of Brighton’s LGBTQ past, share reminiscences about places and events with contemporaries, and discuss their shared and unique experiences with other participants.
Anyone is welcome to attend the workshop, though space is limited. We’d like to be joined by a mix of people representing a range of ages, gender and sexual identities, ethnic and religious backgrounds, all of whom would have their own perspectives on LGBTQ histories.
Please feel welcome to come to our open public event the following day that will include more about LGBTQ histories in Brighton, Queer Beyond London, and a Q&A.Booking and information about the afternoon event is here
