Event description

Description

To celebrate the end of the Power and Architecture season, you're invited to explore east London in this walking workshop hosted by Berlin-based collective Ogino Knauss. The workshop accompanies their installation Re>Centering Periphery at The afterlives of Modernity, the fourth and final exhibition for Power and Architecture.

"Commodified City: London" is an Urban Reconnaissance workshop based one of 64 definitions of the word "city" in the Exercises in Urban Reconnaissance toolbox:

The city is a product, an economic resource and a financial asset. It is transformed and appropriated in respect of its exchange value.

This definition will be the starting point for examining the identity and transformations of London today. Participants will learn to employ this perspective while exploring the Shoreditch neighbourhood, and their personal observations will be discussed and interweaved in a connected narrative.

Spaces in the workshop are limited to 20 participants.

Schedule

10:00am – Introduction, excercises and itinerary
12:00pm – Urban walk (with lunch break in the neighbourhood)
3:30pm – Wrap-up and discussion of results

Location

Participants will meet at Calvert 22, 22 Calvert Avenue, London E2 7JP. The workshop will explore the surrounding Shoreditch neighbourhood, after which participants will return to the space for a discussion.
