Workshop Summary

Join author Cat Weldon, creator of the thrilling How to be a Hero trilogy (Macmillan Children’s Books), for a fun and creative storytelling workshop inspired by Norse mythology!

Based on Cat’s bestselling books for 9–12-year-olds, this interactive session dives into the magical world of Viking myths, exploring ancient monsters, legends, and the rich heritage of Essex’s Anglo-Saxon and Viking past.

What to Expect:

  • An engaging author talk on Norse mythology and the legendary monsters that inspired the books
  • Live readings from How to be a Hero
  • A hands-on activity where children create their own mythological creature – dragons, unicorns, werewolves, mermaids, fairies – let your imagination run wild!
  • A collaborative storytelling session where we place our monsters on a giant map of Essex and dream up the adventures they might have

Perfect for young readers, budding artists, and imaginative minds of all ages. Whether you love drawing or inventing wild tales, this is your chance to bring your own mythological beast to life and become a hero of your own story!
