About this event

  • Event lasts 6 hours
  • Ages 18+
  • Free venue parking

I’m offering a 6 hour garden studio workshop in Hastings, East Hill in which you will experiment with materials (plants/various materials provided/ones you bring along) and templates to create samples using a special cyanotype fabric.

There will be a selection of plant based toners created from the garden, in which to tone your cyanotypes.

I will then guide you through using different stitches to sympathetically design and embellish your samples.

Once you have sampled, you can either continue to experiment or focus on embroidery techniques with my guidance.

Maximum 5 places per workshop.

Please note: access is down a flight of uneven steps.

Teas, coffee and cake provided. Please let me know if you have any special dietry requirements on booking.

Did you know that Cyanotypes were invented by Hawkhurst based astronomer and chemist (among other things) John Herschel? He was friends with the family of the botanist and photographer Anna Atkins, who also lived nearby and she produced many beautiful botanical cyanotypes - she is often considered to be the first person to publish a book of photographic images…
