Event description
Are you ready to feel heard, empowered and supported as a stepmum – wherever you are on your journey?

About this Event

You may currently be feeling frustrated and undervalued in your role as a stepmum. You are not alone!

By the end of this exclusive workshop for stepmums, you will be able to identify what is in your control and what isn’t; this is one of the biggest challenges you’ll face as a stepmum.

You will be supported in better managing expectations, giving yourself permission to step down and prioritise your own self-care.

Challenging stepfamily dynamics can bring out the less desirable qualities in the best of us, but by providing a safe space for you to share your experiences and guiding you in how to protect your boundaries and wellbeing, you’ll return to your family feeling more centred and relaxed.

This one-day workshop will provide you with the space, community and tools you need to find harmony as a stepmum.

What to expect on the day:

Our day begins at 9.30 in the garden room at Headway West Kent, where we’ll spend a bit of time getting to know each other and settling into the space. There will be a suitable aromatherapy blend diffusing throughout the day to support your journey, along with herbal teas and delicious treats to boost your mood.

Lunch and refreshments are included in your ticket investment.

You’ll have the opportunity to spend the day sharing your experiences and frustrations with a likeminded group of women at varying points in their own stepmum journeys.

Your facilitator, Magriet Steyn, Stepfamily Dynamics Coach, will guide you through various pain points and topics during the day; providing tips and tools so you can find harmony as a stepmum.

Some of the topics we might explore together as a small group include*:

  • expectations about stepfamily life, setting realistic expectations and aligning your expectations to your partners’
  • the stepfamily cycle
  • what is in your control and what isn’t
  • being honest with yourself
  • understanding your role as a stepmum, aligning your role with your partners’
  • the types of roles a stepmum can play
  • knowing when to step up and when to step down
  • how to parent in your own lane
  • different parenting styles
  • the importance of the stepcouple relationship and putting each other first
  • how to communicate effectively
  • how to support your partner
  • the pivotal parent
  • how to set and uphold healthy boundaries
  • the importance of prioritising self-care
  • problem solving and brainstorming solutions

*the content of this workshop will be tailored to the needs of the group.

About the venue

We’ll have exclusive use of the garden room at Headway West Kent for the day. This space is wonderfully light and airy, surrounded by greenery; the ideal setting for everyone to relax and grow their stepmum support network.

Headway supports adults who have been affected by brain injury, either as a result of an accident or illness such as a stroke, brain tumour or haemorrhage. They have a centre in Tunbridge Wells and offer support in the community through their Community Wellbeing Support, Wellbeing Support Groups and a Programme of Activities.

It is important for Step Dynamics that we give back to the community whenever we can, so the room hire for this event goes into supporting the work that Headway does: meaning that your ticket not only supports you and your family, but the amazing work this charity does.

Our venue is a 15 minute walk from Tunbridge Wells Train Station, is easily accessible by road and has free off-road parking nearby. Paid parking is also available at the Meadow Road car park a short walk away.
