Discover the Rescued Clay studio at Park Royal and get your hands messy with some locally rescued construction-site clay. This laid-back workshop is all about exploring simple hand-building techniques like pinching, coiling, and slab-building to create your own small clay sculpture. No experience? No problem.
Whether you're totally new or have played with clay before, you'll get to experiment with form, texture, and ideas in a relaxed, open-studio vibe. We'll have some mini demos to help you along the way, but mostly it’s about playing, making, and seeing what comes out.
At the end, you’ll take home your raw, unfired piece, a small reminder of your time working with local clay and a playful step into a more sustainable, circular way of making.
Suitable for all ages, children must be accompanied by a parent or guardian.
ABOUT THE FACILITATOR
At Rescued Clay, we believe that clay, often discarded during construction projects, deserves a new purpose—not just as a material for creating art but as a means to build connections and promote sustainability. Each year, tonnes of clay from London's construction sites end up in landfill. By rescuing this material, we reduce waste while creating opportunities for sustainable practices. Clay holds a unique place in both art and community – it connects us figuratively by bringing people together and literally as a binding material that can incorporate other forms of waste. This dual role inspires everything we do.
Our work spans three interconnected areas: reclaiming and preparing clay for reuse, providing spaces for learning and making, and exploring innovative applications for rescued materials through research and design. Together, these efforts form a holistic approach to sustainability, creativity, and community building.
