Field recording begins with the simple yet profound act of listening. In this hands-on workshop led by sound artist Marieke van de Ven, we will explore how to attune our ears to the environment, capture sounds from the world around us, and reflect on the experience of listening together.
We will start with a short introduction to the practice of field recording and learn about the tools, microphones, and recording techniques that help us capture the soundscape around us. Then we will step outside into the surroundings of Natlab and Strijp-S to record the unique textures of the local sound environment. Finally, we will return indoors to exchange recordings, impressions, and reflections. Together, we will consider how sound can shape narratives and inspire new ways of listening to our environment. This workshop is suitable for anyone curious about sound, from absolute beginners to those already experimenting with audio. All equipment will be provided.
