Event Details

Moving towards a service delivery approach: introducing the concepts of service delivery, life-cycle costs approach and tracking progress - where are we now and where are we headed?

Join IRC and the Institute of Development Studies for a day of learning and reflection on improving service delivery in the rural water and sanitation sector.

IRC International Water and Sanitation Centre’s two flagship projects, Triple-S and WASHCost, are hosting a one-day participatory workshop on Friday, 12th April in Addis Ababa, the day after the end of the Monitoring Sustainable WASH Service Delivery Symposium.

The aim of this one-day event is to introduce the key concepts of service delivery including the life-cycle costs approach (LCCA) and to reflect on the trends and shifts in the water and sanitation sector from a focus on infrastructure to service delivery. During the day you will have the opportunity to learn and discuss about these concepts, take part in a short training session on LCCA and contribute to the overall learning by bringing your own national sector knowledge and perspectives to the table.

For the learning part of the day we will structure reflections around a number of key questions, including:

  • Are we are making progress in moving towards a service delivery approach? And how is this change manifested at organisational, programmatic or sector levels?
  • Are there indicators that can help us track this shift at various levels?
  • How would monitoring these changes help us to keep moving towards sustainable services at scale?

Through a mix of presentations, discussions and group work facilitated jointly by IRC and the Institute of Development Studies (IDS) in the UK, this workshop provides an opportunity to discuss, reflect, and share participants’ own national sector experience with a diverse set of peers and other stakeholders.

There is no fee for registration; however, participants need to arrange and pay for their own accommodation and any additional (travel) costs.
