An exciting opportunity to join an interactive online workshop for KS2 teachers wanting to build greater challenge and enjoyment in their poetry curriculum using the Opening Doors principles and strategies.

What can poetry offer young readers and writers that is unique and essential to their progress and enjoyment?

How can performing, reading and writing poetry make a valuable contribution to addressing skills gaps?

This taster seminar aims to open doors for teachers and their pupils to the learning potential that lies in the richness of language, form and ideas in poetry

This live session will run on Zoom from 16.00-17.30: Wednesday February 1st 2023

Delegates will:

  • experience simulated teaching sequences that exemplify the Opening Doors principles and strategies
  • have access to the slides and materials after the event
  • be sent links to extra teaching materials from the series of Opening Doors books, including recorded tutorials

WORKSHOP Opening Doors to Rich Poetry at KS2 image

Your workshop facilitator will be Opening Doors author and consultant Leah Crawford.

Leah has 15 years experience as a Local Authority English Inspector/Adviser, working across the primary and secondary phases. In her school career, she held pastoral and subject leader roles and still teaches. She now leads Thinktalk consultancy, is a Tutor for the King’s College Let’s Think in English Cognitive Acceleration programme and is a consultant and writer for Bob Cox’s Opening Doors publications and consultancy. She has completed a Masters in Education Degree on teacher learning and development and has recently supported a European Erasmus project on the Assessment of Thinking Skills.
