Have your say on the use of your patient medical records.

In previous events, community members and patients have indicated that they support the use of patient medical records by academic and medical researchers for the purpose of understanding health and healthcare if patients can opt out. However, healthcare researchers may need to inform, or work with scientific industries to develop new health products, medications and treatment methods, and to support new health research. Additionally, the government has the ability to mandate that NHS trusts give them patient medical records.

How should healthcare researchers and NHS trusts interact with the government and scientific communities on using and sharing patient medical records? Are you interested in helping to decide how patient medical records are shared between healthcare providers, government, researchers and scientific companies? We want to hear your views on sharing and selling medical records for commercial purposes. Are there acceptable reasons and/or ways in which healthcare providers could share patient medical records with the government, researchers, and scientific/pharmaceutical companies?

The Centre for Cambridge Clinical Informatics (http://www.clinicalinformatics.group.cam.ac.uk/) is hosting a free public workshop on these topics. This will be a lively two and a half hour interactive workshop where everyone is encouraged to share their opinions or raise points of concern. All people who are eligible to receive healthcare in the UK are welcomed. Patients, and their family members and carers, are particularly encouraged to attend. The information we generate will be shared with policy makers and those involved in healthcare research to help support a community-formed policy on health data management. Light refreshments and compensation for reasonable travel costs will be provided.

Cycle Parking

There are covered cycle racks behind the car park.

Car Parking

The University Centre has only 12 car parking spaces. Members may use the car park in front of The University Centre only whilst using The University Centre. Parking after midnight or before 8.00 am is not permitted. The area adjacent to the north and east sides of the building is reserved for staff use and for the delivery of goods. Spaces may be reserved, subject to availability, by the following members:

• Registered disabled drivers, displaying an official disabled badge

• Conference organisers

• Riverside Restaurant customers

To reserve a space, call Reception on 01223 337766. Further parking is available within a five minute walk of the University Centre:

• Double Tree by Hilton Hotel car park, opposite the Centre

• Lion Yard Car Park, on Corn Exchange Street off Pembroke Street Silver Street

• Outside Darwin and Queens Colleges (motorcycles only)

• Along the Backs

Further disabled parking spaces can be found at Lion Yard Car Park and on King's Parade.

Accessibility

Access to The University Centre is through wide, double doors at street level. Accessible toilets can be found on the ground floor and on the first floor. A lift grants easy access to all floors. The main conference room, the Hicks Room, is fitted with an induction loop.
