Description

Translate are collaborating with NIHR CYPtech MIC (Children and Young People MedTech Co-operative) and NIHR Devices for Dignity MIC (D4D) to run an innovation workshop, aiming to further explore the needs of children living with rare diseases and to begin exploring potential technology solutions.

D4D and CYPtech MIC are centres of expertise funded by the NIHR to act as a catalyst within the NHS for the development of new medical devices, healthcare technologies and technology-dependant interventions. D4D’s focus is on dignity and independence across the life course and CYPtech focus is on children with long term conditions, specifically rare diseases which is one of the 7 themes of the MIC.

The workshop builds on a significant amount of work undertaken by TITCH (Technology Innovation Transforming Child Health) in conjunction with clinicians and children/families, identifying areas where innovation would greatly improve the quality of life for children living with rare diseases. The areas of focus are:

  • Remote Monitoring to reduce the number of hospital visits a child must make as part of routine monitoring of their condition.
  • Early Alert Systems to monitor real time changes in a child’s health, and enable proactive care rather than relying on emergency reactive care.

The workshop will further this work, starting with exploring the opportunities for innovation, before going onto develop initial ideas for innovative technology which meets the needs of children and their families.

Attendance is invited from academics, clinicians, industry, and anyone with an interest or knowledge in the area of rare diseases or technology. Attendees will be encouraged to form multi-disciplinary collaborations and project teams during the workshop.

Following the workshop, collaborative teams will be invited to further develop their ideas and pitch them to Translate and CYP-TECH via a competitive process. Successful project teams will be awarded a package of support, enabling their initial ideas to be further developed and progressed before going onto attract additional external funding.

Places are limited, and prior registration is essential. Book now to avoid disappointment!
