About this event
"Treasure Tingle - Rethinking Your Reno and Nailing Sustainability" is a full day workshop in Manchester designed to help you create a unique and uniquely personal home.
Our day includes a house tour, practical demo's, hands on product trials, disucssions about materials, how to make design choices, painting tips and even lunch. We focus on the use of vintage, salvage and reclamation to build and renovate, and also decorate, both indoors and externally. Here at Moregeous Mansions we call it Treasure!
Renovators, self builders, home updaters and interiors obsessives are now interested in, indeed determined to, make more sustainable choices when spending hard earned cash on their homes or projects.
Our workshop will show you how to consider items you may have dismissed or ignored or thought of as not worth saving, as treasure.
How to:
- save money during expensive renovations and revamps
- look at previously discarded or unwanted items with fresh eyes
- reduce your landfill contributions and be mindful of waste
- understand it's not always necessary to buy new
We promise that a day here will help you to:
- value & design with what's often right under your nose
- see beauty and treasure in the unexpected
- make unique choices for your home
- protect, paint and upcycle to build and create
We'll start outside with a hands on chat about reclaimed bricks and slates, decorative garden materials, setts and cobbles, covering how salvage can both add style and soul to your property, and save you money. Where to expect higher labour costs and how to reduce those with your own DIY. Practical tips on larger salvage items and purchases, covering both pros and cons.
Moving indoors we'll rummage through the Moregeous Mansions interior discovering expert tips on adding salvage in a stylish and considered way. How to blend the past with the future and create a contemporary home with heritage features. See how to mix traditional & salvage style with a crisp modern edge to bring your home into 2020. Get the low down on how your ideas might turn out should you attempt them and the tips to create a successful interior. Learn how how to cleverly source & buy, & how to look at treasure finds with fresh vision to create unique design touches.
Enjoy a delicious lunch, with veggies catered for. Specialist dietary requirements? You're welcome to BYO food.
We'll then have an hour with Mr Moregeous for tool related adventures. Maybe you want to have a go with a power drill or see how an affordable mitresaw or table saw can help you reimagine timber salvage. Tips on tools to buy to save you money and how to achieve the bespoke looks here at Moregeous HQ.
And there's more! We'll then look at various paints, varnishes, dyes and finishes, getting stuck in with brushes and samples. We've been upcycling, decorating and using products for over 20yrs so can guide you on the best ones to use and what to avoid. No ads or spons either, just genuine opinions and examples. Everything from chalk to mineral paint, laquers, metallics and sprays.
There may be some time at the end for specific enquiries. Please do bring photos of treasure you have for ideas and advice. Or if it's small enough, bring it along!
Much more than a house tour, just read our reviews so far on our Facebook page here: https://www.facebook.com/pg/Moregeous/photos/?tab=album&album_id=491407441635135
