Event description

Description

You may have seen about the rise of ChemSex (the sexualised use of drugs such as GHB, crystal meth and mephedrone) in the media recently; and if you work with drugs, alcohol or the LGBT community then it may be something you are starting to encounter in your services. However, many still do not fully understand the underlying issues. Counsellor Katie Evans is offering a new half-day workshop around ChemSex and the use of party drugs by men who have sex with men.

Aims of the workshop:

  • A greater understanding of what ‘ChemSex’ is and how it affects the lives of those involved
  • To explore the underlying issues, cultural and societal factors behind the rise of ChemSex
  • To provide ideas around how to work with ChemSex therapeutically
  • To discuss ideas and feelings around ChemSex
  • Understand something of the breadth and nature of identities that engage in sexualised drug use
  • Have sufficient understanding of ChemSex clients to feel more confident and better equipped to work with them in their own practice settings.

This workshop is relevant to the following groups: Counsellors, Key Workers, Support Workers, Volunteers, Supervisors, Trainees, Team Leaders, Drug and Alcohol Services, LGBT Services.
