About this event

Designed for a practitioner audience, this 3-hour interactive workshop is dedicated to exploring the exploitative and predatory practice of 'cuckooing'. With a focus on West Yorkshire, the workshop will address the following questions:


  • What is 'cuckooing?'
  • How and why are victims identified and targeted by 'cuckooing' perpetrators?
  • How is 'cuckooing' experienced by victims?
  • What are the signs of 'cuckooing'?
  • How can 'cuckooing' be prevented and disrupted in West Yorkshire?


The workshop will be delivered by:

  • Heather Ashby - ASB Team Manager, Leeds City Council
  • Dr Laura Bainbridge - Lecturer in Criminal Justice, University of Leeds
  • Jennifer Griffiths - Modern Slavery Training and Partnerships Coordinator, West Yorkshire Police

Walking

The Clarendon Building is a 30-minute walk from Leeds Rail Station.


Exit the station into City Square. With the Queens Hotel behind you, walk straight up Park Row. Continue up Park Row until the first major junction. Cross straight over The Headrow and continue up Cookridge Street. At the next set of lights go straight on, passing Millennium Square on your left and Leeds City Museum on your right.

Turn left on to Woodhouse Lane, a busy main road. You will pass Leeds Beckett University on your left. The University of Leeds campus begins in another 50 metres or so, on your left. To reach the Clarendon Building, continue walking up Woodhouse Lane, then take a left onto Clarendon Road.

Bike racks are available outside The Liberty Building.

By Taxi

A taxi to the Clarendon Building takes approximately 10 minutes from Leeds Rail Station.


Parking

Car parks that are in walking distance of the University include Woodhouse Lane Car Park and the Merrion Centre Car Park. On-street parking is also available on the streets surrounding Hyde Park Road. No permits will be available to park on the University of Leeds campus.


Registration

Upon arrival, please register at the Registration Desk located outside of the SR 2.08 in the Clarendon Building.
