Event description

Description

This is a conference for Ph.D. candidates in linguistics whose research incorporates either Public Engagement in Lingusitics or Corpus Linguistics (or both). Doctoral candidates will present research on the core themes of this research forum. As the conference is targeted at those who are beginning their research careers, it will be a collaborative and supportive space for exploring new and innovative ideas. Alongside this peer-to-peer support there will also be key note talks from world-experts in Public Engagement and Corpus Linguistics.

Plenary Speakers-

10th July- Professor M. Lynne Murphy (University of Sussex)- With a highly succesful and long-running blog (www.separatedbyacommonlanguage.blogspot.co.uk) and multiple radio appearances as well as a forthcoming general-audience book entitled The Prodigal Tongue, Murphy has a wealth of experience in busting myths and bringing linguistic facts into the public consciousness with humour and aplomb.

11th July- Professor Bas Aarts (UCL)- Professor Aarts is the Director of the Survey of Engish Usage at UCL. The Survey is renowned for its world leading work in corpus lingusitics.
