On the occasion of Madeleine Rees's honorary degree, the School of Social and Political Science invite staff and students to: 

 

Workshops on Human Rights, Women, Peace and Security  

  

You are warmly invited to a workshop addressing the themes of distinguished guest Madeleine Rees’s Chrystal Macmillan Lecture: women, peace and security. The first panel will showcase research ongoing at the University of Edinburgh, whilst the second will bridge academic and activist divides and focus on the main challenges to achieving gender-equitable peace and security in the contemporary context.

Gerhard Anders (International Development) Victims and perpetrators: Addressing gender-based violence in Africa

Christine Bell (Law) Peace Agreements: What is a gender perspective?

Zoe Marks (Centre for African Studies) Women in armed conflict

15.30-16.45: Roundtable: Human Rights, women’s rights, peace and security – contemporary challenges

Arrangements:

The event will take place in the 6th floor staffroom in the Chrystal Macmillan Building. There will be a chance to visit the WILPF and Wool Against Weapons exhibition in the foyer area after the event. At 6pm on the same day the Chrystal Macmillan Lecture will be given by Madeleine Rees.
