Event Details

HOW CAN WORLD CITIES BECOME MORE SUSTAINABLE AND RESILIENT?

This essential question forms the central theme of World Cities Day  – An international event, launched by the United Nation’s General Assembly, to address the growing challenges of global urbanisation and sustainable development.

This year’s event takes place on the 31st October 2018, in Liverpool, UK and will be compared by Master of Ceremonies Zoe Tabary, Editor of the Thompson Reuters Foundation.

The overarching theme of the summit is ‘Better City, Better Life’ with the sub-theme of ‘Building Sustainable and Resilient Cities’.

The prestigious two-day conference, featuring a formal evening dinner and drinks reception at two of Liverpool’s most historic attractions, will highlight and debate the most pressing sustainable urban development issues facing our planet today.

IMPORTANT NOTE

Due to high demand, in the first instance we are asking people to register their interest to attend this event. Those who are selected will receive notification and tickets.

WHO ATTENDS?

Organised by the United Nations Human Settlements Programme (UN-Habitat) and the Shanghai’s People’s Government and hosted by economic development agency, Liverpool Vision (on behalf of Liverpool City Council) the event will attract more than 200 high-calibre urban development professionals and decision makers from around the world.

WHAT ARE THE BENEFITS?

The conference, seminars and proceeding tour will share knowledge and raise awareness of effective, new urban solutions and contribute to the implementation of a new, global ‘Urban Agenda’.

Delegates attend to foster international relations, access a platform for knowledge exchange but most importantly to understand, deliberate and address the demographic, environmental, economical, social and spacial issues posed by the modern world of urbanisation.

WHAT HAPPENS?

A dynamic mixture of panel sessions, presentations and seminars from international city representatives will come together in Liverpool’s Grade l St George’s Hall to share their latest urbanisation success. The event will also provide opportunities for cities to equip themselves with the tools required to make their city more resilient in the future.

The evening drinks reception and formal dinner will be held at Liverpool’s world-renowned Anglican Cathedral and the event’s final day will culminate with a tour of Liverpool City Region’s most resilient and sustainable urban areas.

This important international event will help steer the world towards responsible, sustainable and effective development of our planets cities and we strongly urge invited guests to attend and be part of Word Cities Day 2018.
