About this Event

Next Thursday 10th of October is World Mental Health Day and we will be hosting a series of events to promote good mental health and wellbeing. The main event will be ‘A Guide to Surviving the Music Industry’ where a panel of industry experts will discuss several topics relating to mental health and the music industry.

Our panel guests include:

Aidan Culley – Help Musicians UK

Aidan manages Help Musicians UK’s Regional Visiting Service and works with our longer-term beneficiaries. In his time at the charity he has also supported emerging artists and working musicians with an array of health and welfare challenges, so has varied experience of working with artists experiencing mental health problems. Away from work he is a keen guitarist, pianist and occasional DJ.

Tamsin Embleton - Music Industry Therapist Collective

Tamsin Embleton is an ex-music industry festival and venue booker turned psychotherapist who specialises in working with musicians, DJs and music industry professionals. Backed by Live Nation, Tamsin is writing the Touring and Mental Health Manual, a book offering in-depth advice and guidance to help touring communities cope with the myriad psychological difficulties that can arise during or as a result of touring. She is a co-Chair of the Association for Electronic Music’s Health group and the founder of the Music Industry Therapist Collective (MITC), a group of psychotherapists working in the UK and US all of whom have worked in the industry in recording, labels, radio, live and as artists.

SK Shlomo

After collaborating with Ed Sheeran, Bjork and Damon Albarn, the record-breaking beatboxer SK Shlomo turned electronic singer-songwriter on his debut album tour, blending innovative live-looping and breathtaking beatboxing with epic synths, crushingly honest lyrics and lush electronic layers. Massive Attack meets James Blake.

YouTube Certified and Webby Award-winning writer and content creator specialising in music production, technology, DJing, audio engineering and electronic music culture. Experience working in print, online, video and event production. Declan's clients and collaborators include RBMA, Resident Advisor, Universal Music, Urban Ears, DJ Mag, Point Blank Music School, Clash, Future Music, Native Instruments, Music Tech and many, many more.

Danny DeMatos - Point Blank Music School

Danny de Matos is a multi-talented composer/musician of Portuguese descent, based in nr. Windsor, England, previously signed to Arista and Universal worldwide for both recording and publishing respectively, and now signed to Heavenly Songs the publishing arm of Heavenly Records. He learned music as a kid, working in record shops at weekends, listening to anything and everything he could get his hands on before joining local bands and then going on to become a professional musician.

The panel session will take place from 7.30pm – 9pm on the 10th of October and will be in the Hub at Orsman Road.
