About this event

Back to Me is a 60-minute, healing-focused workshop designed for Black women to honour World Mental Health Day in a way that centres rest, reflection, and emotional expression. Hosted by the Thelma Matilda Alves Foundation, this workshop invites participants into a soft, affirming space where they can slow down, be witnessed, and reconnect with themselves—without pressure, performance, or judgment.

At its heart, Back to Me is a space to simply be. Through guided grounding practices, gentle journaling, and an open sharing circle, we offer room for participants to speak honestly about how they’ve been feeling—what they’ve been carrying, releasing, or reclaiming in their emotional lives. We centre the voices, needs, and inner worlds of Black women, acknowledging the everyday realities and pressures that often go unseen and unspoken.

This is not a workshop that asks you to fix or change yourself—it’s an invitation to return to you.

Whether you come to share, listen, or just take a breath, Back to Me is a reminder that your feelings are valid, your experiences matter, and you don’t have to hold everything alone.

Frequently asked questions

Who is this workshop for?

This space is specifically for Black women and femmes. It’s designed to centre our voices, experiences, and emotional wellbeing in a supportive and affirming environment.

Do I have to share during the session?

Not at all. Sharing is completely optional. You are welcome to just listen, journal quietly, or take in the space however feels best for you.

Will the session be recorded?

No. To protect privacy and create a safe, open space for everyone, the session will not be recorded.

Is this a therapy session?

No, this is not a therapy session. While the workshop includes reflective and grounding practices, it is a peer-led, community space—not a clinical mental health service.

What do I need to bring?

We recommend bringing a notebook or journal, a pen, and anything that helps you feel comfortable—like a candle, a blanket, or your favourite tea. If joining online, find a quiet space where you feel safe to tune in.
