The Ocean Conservation All Party Parliamentary Group would like to invite you to a reception to celebrate World Ocean Day.

We are pleased to be joined by guest speakers to discuss ocean recovery and the importance of protecting our existing Marine Protected Area network.

About the speakers:

Cherilyn Mackrory MP (APPG co-chair):

Cherilyn is the Conservative MP for Truro and Falmouth. She co-chairs the Ocean Conservation APPG which brings together parliamentarians from all political parties to discuss, develop and drive solutions to protect and restore the marine environment through policy and legislative change.

Kirsten Carter (RSPB, WIldlife and Countryside Link Marine Group Chair):

Kirsten leads the development and high-level advocacy of RSPB policy and advocacy on marine and fisheries issues. She also chairs the WIldlife and Countryside Link coalition Marine Group, bringing together marine organisations to use their strong joint voice to advocate for a world-leading, well-managed network of marine protected areas in UK seas.

Dr Bryce Stewart (University of York):

Bryce is a leading marine ecologist and fisheries biologist whose work has ranged from temperate estuaries to tropical coral reefs and the deep-sea. Recently his focus has been on how to improve the management of fisheries through policies including marine protected areas.

Simon Brockington (OEP):

Simon is the Chief Insights Officer at the Office for Environmental Protection (OEP). The OEP is a new public body legally created in November 2021 under the Environment Act 2021 with a crucial role in maintaining environmental protections for the marine environment.
