This October, we’re shining a spotlight on the Western Cape’s wild terroir, its independent wine mavericks, and wines that punch way above their price tag. South Africa isn’t just about safaris and sunsets (although, yes please) – it’s one of the top 10 wine-producing countries in the world. The wines produced here are unapologetically bold, exhibiting the sunshine-infused richness you’d expect from South Africa’s balmy slopes and lush vineyards.
We’re delighted to welcome Anton Malan from Rainbow's End Wine Estate for a two-hour tasting exploring the icons, classics, and hidden gems of South Africa's – from bright, aromatic Cabernet Franc to bold Shiraz and the beautifully layered Family Reserve. All the wines come from Rainbow’s End, a family-run estate in Stellenbosch known for precision, character, and a deep connection to its terroir.
Rainbow's End is a proper family endeavor. Dr Jacques Malan gave up his practice to pursue his love of wine. Now his son Anton makes the wine and his other son Francois tends the vines of the 22 hectare estate in Stellenbosch. The vineyards rise up from the valley floor to 550m above sea level high up the Jonkershoek Mountain.
Anton and the Humble Grape team will be pouring seven incredible wines, including a welcome drink, sharing stories of the winemaker, the unique terroirs, and the winemaking traditions that make the wines of South Africa so iconic. So whether you're a longtime fan of South African wine or just curious to explore beyond the usual supermarket picks, this tasting is for you.
