Description

To celebrate World Social Work Day we are bringing together a range of speakers to celebrate 50 years since the Social Work (Scotland) Act 1968, highlight the Act’s achievements and looking forward to a further 50 years of social work.


Introduction: Paul Gray, Director General Health and Social Care, Scottish Government


Keynote Speakers:


Professor Viviene Cree, School of Social & Political Science, Edinburgh University

  • Viv will provide an overview of the 1968 Act, its policy intentions, key strengths and impact.

Thomas Timlin, Social Worker, North Ayrshire Council

  • Thomas will reflect on his own experience of being looked after and then becoming a social worker.


Discussion Panel: Chaired by Iona Colvin, Chief Social Work Adviser to the Scottish Government.

Representatives from across the social services sector will give their perspectives on the challenges and opportunities for the sector to continue the ambitions of the 1968 Act.
