Event description

Description

The famous Deutscher Chor London together with its orchestra, the Keld Ensemble, will perform commissioned works by Orlando Gough (see below) followed by the Brahms Requiem.

This will take place in the beautiful setting of the courtyard of Highgate Cemetery West in front our war memorial.

Proceeds from the concert will go to MSF UK (Médecins Sans Frontières / Doctors Without Borders) which works to save people's lives in conflict zones, natural disasters and epidemics.

"Armistice" by the British composer Orlando Gough is written for the German Choir of London's “Blessed are the Peacemakers” project.
The Cycle contains five acappella pieces on poems written during or just after the First World War as well as poems relating to the war, written later.
The five pieces show the spectrum of emotions felt when the war was over. From joy (“Everyone sang”) to sadness over lost friends (“Paris, November 11 1918”), homesickness (“Facing home”), anger (“Consider this”) to desire for lasting peace (“Ich setze auf die Liebe”).

The German Choir will premier the Cycle at Bradford Cathedral on 27 May 2018 and will sing pieces from it in Cathedrals all over Britain and Belgium (including St Paul's Cathedral, Canterbury Cathedral, York Minster, Liverpool Cathedral and Brussels Cathedral) later in the year.
